The Veil Is Thin

I was looking forward to my trip to Sedona in January with my daughters and their families. I had heard that there were special places here where prayers were more powerful. Some say that “the veil is very thin” in Sedona. I was not able to visit any of the sites where these storied vortices were, but I did find a place overlooking a deep creek bed which called out to me as the place to pray for Joe.
I had a special intention - that was to pray for Joe’s healing. Joe is the father of my daughter’s best friend. Just after Thanksgiving, an aneurysm in his brain burst. For weeks he was in a coma, later barely regaining consciousness. He was able to move the tip of one pinky but was unable to speak or communicate. After weeks in the hospital, Joe was transferred to a rehab center.
With this special intention, I looked down at the creek bed and held out my hands to pray. I could feel the enormous power of God. I asked God for the healing Joe needed; I thanked God for his loving power to return Joe to well-being. I knew he was listening; I felt his loving grace. When I returned to my family, I told my daughter that God had heard my prayer and that over time Joe would be healed. She thanked me for praying and cautiously hoped that I was right.
The very next day my daughter showed me a text she just received from her best friend. It was a picture of Joe, sitting up in a wheelchair - the first time he had been up since the aneurysm! While I was most grateful and praised God, I honestly was not surprised. I know God has the power to heal. I continue to pray for Joe as his recovery will be long. He needs to re-learn all the things we take for granted each day - movement, speech, awareness. But everything is possible with God.
