The Charleston SC OSL Healing Community (Charleston OSL) was formed in July 2012 immediately following the “Festival of Joy” healing revival which was held at St John’s Chapel on the lower Eastside of Charleston.
Events leading up to the formation of the community included a weekly prayer meeting where OSL members came together with Rev Dr Dallas Wilson (Brother Dallas), his wife Janie, and others from St John’s for a weekly prayer and healing service.
These events began to attract prayer ministers from all over the area, some of whom were OSL prayer ministers but were not serving in the healing ministry in their churches or elsewhere.
Later, a weekly Saturday prayer service with neighborhood prayer walk was added, along with monthly “feeding of the multitude” ministry at St John’s which Charleston OSL participated in.
Previously, Dr Mike Sabback, his wife, Jeanne, and Rev John Rice had traveled to India on multiple occasions to bring the Healing Ministry of Jesus and OSL to the Diocese of Durgapur, W. Bengal at the invitation of Bp. Probal Dutta.
During these trips “Festival of Joy” healing revivals were held in various locations. These tent meetings drew thousands of all faiths who wanted to receive the healing touch of Jesus, and became the model for the “Festival of Joy, Charleston”.
In 2012 Bp Dutta and his assistant, Rev Amiya Das, traveled to the US to receive intensive 3 day training in the foundational study “The 26 Healing Miracles of Jesus” and to be formally inducted into OSL.
This prompted an invitation by Charleston OSL for Bp Dutta to come to Charleston and preside over the first of its kind “Festival of Joy Charleston”.
After that event there was a great hunger for many of the prayer ministers to band together and share the healing ministry of Jesus with the community which led to the formation of Charleston OSL immediately after the festival concluded.
Charleston OSL was commissioned by Rev John Rice, who was the OSL Region 3 Director, and included Rev Dr Dallas Wilson, Chaplain, Mike Sabback MD, convener, Catherine (Kits)Jones, co convener, Heather Dawson MD, treasurer, and Chris Turner, secretary.
The community continued to participate in the all the previous ministry activities at St John’s including the Tuesday healing service, Wednesday prayer service, Saturday Prayer walks and monthly Feeding of the Multitude.
Later the community expanded into the entire Charleston area by establishing a healing prayer ministry at the Dreamcenter Medical Clinic in North Charleston where Dr Mike served as medical director.
In 2014 a group from Charleston OSL came together with Christian counselors and OSL prayer ministers to form the Grace Healing Center, a nondenominational freestanding ministry to practice and promote the healing ministry of Jesus.
The OSL 26 Healing Miracles of Jesus Study became the foundational study for prayer ministers at the Grace Center and Dreamcenter and additional training programs were added including Christian Healing Ministries Level 1, 2 and 3 training, Sozo Prayer Ministry and “Unbound’ 5 Keys to Freedom prayer ministry training.
OSL nights of fellowship, healing and prayer were also held monthly featuring food and fellowship, praise and worship, teaching from the word of God, healing prayer and healing testimonies. These nights were held in multiple locations throughout the Charleston area including churches, fellowships and homes.
In 2015 Charleston OSL was asked to host the OSL North America Conference. This biannual conference was held at Seacoast Church, MT Pleasant SC with over 400 in attendance. Chauncey Crandall MD, author of “Raising the Dead” was the keynote speaker of this highly successful, Spirit filled event.
Over the next few years Charleston OSL grew and thrived by continuing to offer the 26 Healing Miracles Study twice a year to members of the community from all churches and fellowships. OSL Charleston also partnered with Seacoast Missions to take the Healing Ministry of Jesus on mission trips to Honduras, India and Sri Lanka.
OSL Prayer ministers were active in the Dreamcenter Clinic and social outreach, providing healing prayer to all who came to the clinic for food, clothing, or medical attention and partnering with the Dreamcenter in community prayer walks, Thanksgiving food distribution and Cinderella Day, a prom preparation event for teenage girls.
We also joined with the North Charleston Police for their community policing rounds and held prayer events for the North Charleston Police and Fire departments.
By 2020, Charleston OSL had over 100 active members was serving in multiple locations throughout Charleston, and had three Chaplains including Pastor Jack Ward, lead chaplain, Pastor Ed Stiltz who also served as OSL South Carolina State Representative, and Pastor Ben Akery.
Board Members during that time included Dr Mike Sabback, convener, Merilee Perrine, co convener, George Brown, treasurer, and Earthea Brown, secretary. It should be noted that the Browns were also two of the founding members of OSL Charleston.
In January 2020, OSL Charleston held a night of fellowship and prayer at Seacoast Church West Ashley Campus featuring healing testimonies. So many were in attendance that we had to procure a spillover meeting room to hold all the attendees.
In March 2020 Charleston OSL was forced to suspend all in person meetings and outreach activities because of the COVID pandemic. However, after a few months we began to hold virtual meetings on zoom with many prayer ministers attending from the Charleston area, South Carolina, the US and Canada and the Caribbean.
We began to produce training programs on zoom including the 26 Healing Miracles of Jesus, Unbound prayer ministry training, Healing in Acts training and Life in the Spirit, spiritual enrichment series.
We encouraged and empowered all who take part in our programs to find opportunities to take the healing ministry of Jesus into their local communities including joining established social outreach ministries, local prayer walks and other community events.
OSL Charleston has now partnered with “Charleston Prays Together” an ecumenical group that comes together to pray for the community and to prayer walk in strategic areas.
We also produce hybrid programs both on zoom and in person, including nights of fellowship and prayer, mornings of soaking and healing prayer, summer prayer celebration, fall healing conference, as well as Advent and Lenten retreats.
We have expanded our leadership team to include twelve prayer minsters from the Charleston area and beyond and will be expanding our outreach into the entire State of South Carolina so that all who need healing may have an opportunity to touch the hem of Jesus garment.
